Professor Ming-Wei Wang visits UNC School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill (U.S.A.)

On June 15, 2016, Professor Ming-Wei Wang, Dean, School of Pharmacy, Fudan University and Director of the National Center for Drug Screening/Chinese National Compound Library, visited Eshelman School of Pharmacy, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in U.S.A. In the morning, he interacted with Professor David Lawrence (Chair, Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry), Professor Robert Dupuis (Clinical Pharmacy), Associate Professor Jo Ellen Rodgers (Clinical Pharmacy), Assistant Professor David R. Steeb (Clinical Pharmacy), Research Professor Kenneth H. Pearce (Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry), Associate Professor Xiaodong Wang (Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry) and Professor Stephen V. Frye (Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry), respectively. Chaired by Professor Dhiren R. Thakker (Associate Dean), Dr. Wang delivered an invited lecture on the structures and functions of class B G protein-coupled receptors describing the latest achievements made by his research team, which was well-received by the audience. This was followed by a lunch gathering where faculty representatives such as Professor Xiao Xiao, Assistant Professor Gang Greg Wang and Dr. Miranda G. Law, etc., student representatives such as Ms. Erin Wei, etc. as well as several alumni of Fudan University discussed with Dr. Wang about golden opportunities for a bilateral “win-win” collaboration. In the afternoon, Dr. Wang met with Professor Bob Blouuin (Dean) and Associate Professor Stephen F. Eckel. During the 1.5-hour long meeting, they discussed topics such as professional education, career training, scientific research, resource sharing and personnel exchange. A common understanding was reached as a result relative to forging a comprehensive collaboration. Preliminary action items and execution plan were also agreed upon between them.
