In the morning of May 30, 2012, Vice Minister of Health, Professor Qian Liu, met with Professor Ming-Wei Wang, Director of the National Center for Drug Screening (NCDS) and Chinese National Compound Library (CNCL), at his office in Beijing. Following a report made by Dr. Wang concerning the current status of compound resource platform build-up supported by the National Mega R&D Program on "Major New Drug Innovation", the establishment of a public service mechanism in particular, the vice minister highly commended the efforts made so far by CNCL, in terms of actively promoting the new "national inclusive mechanism" and vigorously creating an open operational model. "Implementation of such novel idea and practice of which would set an example for others to imitate" said Professor Liu. He further emphasized the importance of efficient use of the compounds and parallel development of both resource and screening platforms, in order to ensure the sustainable growth of NCDS while providing unwavering support to CNCL.
Professor Ming-Wei Wang also gave a brief account relative to recent progresses made in characterization of new drug targets and international collaboration on diseases of poverty sponsored by the Mega Program. The desire expressed by Novo Nordisk A/S to continue support the "Novo Nordisk-PUMC Diabetes Tenant Award", to donate a "China Hemophilia Research Fund" and to cooperate on education and training at the grass-root level on diabetes management was also conveyed to the vice minister.
