The opening ceremony of the "State-of-the-art Demonstration Laboratory" jointly set up by the National Center for Drug Screening (NCDS), the Chinese National Compound Library (CNCL) and ThermoFisher Scientific (USA) was held in the CNCL facility in the afternoon of April 24, 2012.

Among the Chinese dignitaries who were present in the ceremony included Mr. Chen Yu (Executive Deputy Director, the Administrative Committee of Shanghai Zhangjiang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Deputy Director General of Shanghai Municipality Science and Technology Commission), Professor Jian Ding (Director of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences; SIMM), Mr. Jianjun Cheng (Deputy Director and CCP Secretary of SIMM), Professor Yang Ye (Deputy Director of SIMM) and Mr. Gang Liu (Secretary General of  Shanghai Pudong Bio Industry Association). They gave a warm reception to the guests from ThermoFisher such as Mr. Michael D. Shafer (President and General Manager of Great China), Mr. Jeff Besio (Vice President and Finance Director), Mr. Xiaofeng Liang (Director of CMD-Chrom), Mr. Ran Gu (Director of Strategic Marketing), Mr. Hu Tan (LPG Sales Manager), Ms. Na Li (APD Product Manager) as well as Mr. Changying Yu (Strategic Market Development Focused Account Manager).

Professor Ming-Wei Wang presided the ceremony. On behalf of SIMM, Professor Yang Ye commanded the establishment of the "State-of-the-art Demonstration Laboratory" as a substantial collaborative step. He wishes that such a win-win partnership will soon bear its plentiful fruits. "We attach a tremendous importance to the rapid growth of China’s pharmaceutical industry and hope that we will be able to promote drug innovation through strengthening our cooperation", said Mr. Michael Shafer. Representing Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Dr. Xiaoming Shen, Mr. Chen Yu congratulated this collaboration and emphasized that the Zhangjiang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone will provide unwavering support and assistance to the further development of CNCL.

Under the name of ThermoFisher Scientific, Mr. Michael Shafer donated a batch of research equipment to CNCL. Following unveiling the plate for "State-of-the-art Demonstration Laboratory" by Mr. Chen Yu, Professor Jian Ding, Mr. Michael Shafer and Mr. Jeff Besio, a magnolia tree was planted by the dignitaries wishing a rapid growth of the joint laboratory.
