The Novo Nordisk-Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Fund 10th Year Anniversary Symposium was held at the Sino-Danish Center for Research and Education, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) based in Huairou, Beijing on November 1, 2017. The opening session was jointly chaired by Drs. Yongqing Zhang (Deputy Director-General of Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS) and Børge Diderichsen (Vice President, Novo Nordisk A/S, NN). Professor Zhu Chen, Vice Chairman of the 12th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, who also served as the first chair of this fund, sent his warmest congratulating remarks via a prerecorded video. Drs. Yaping Zhang (Vice President, CAS) and Peter Kurtzhals (Senior Vice President, NN) delivered their respective opening speech expressing a common desire of strengthening the bilateral collaboration and promoting the fund growth. Dr. Ming-Wei Wang (Director, the National Center for Drug Screening) gave a brief account about the past and present of the fund on behalf of the management board, while Dr. Søren Tullin (Vice President, NN) introduced Novo Nordisk research and development strategy as well as its Research Centre in China. Approximately 150 scientists, executives and graduate students from CAS, NN and several universities across China participated in the event.
During three theme sessions, 12 invited speakers, including Professor Beili Wu (Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, CAS), Professor Ruiping Xiao (Peking University), Professor Jiarui Wu (ShanghaiTech University), Professor Hongkui Deng (Peking University), Dr. Jesper Lau (NN), Guangwei Li (Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences), Professor Feng Liu (Central China University), Professor Hongliang Li (Wuhan University), Professor Bing Sun (Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, CAS), Assistant Professor Gang Fu (Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, CAS), Professor Peng Chen (Peking University) and Professor Wensheng Wei (Peking University), described their latest research achievements in their lectures which were enthusiastically responded by the audience.
The closing session was chaired by Professor Tao Xu (Vice President of UCAS). Drs. Yin Li (Deputy Director-General of Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS) and Børge Diderichsen (Vice President, NN) gave their respective concluding remarks: while being very content with success of this symposium, they sincerely wish that the fund will continue to prosper in the years to come.
